The board of School District 88 has been advised by the Ministry of Education that it will have a budget of $6,170 for each student enroled in the 1991-92 school year. The news arrived March 7, two weeks beyond the date the ministry had originally intended to have the information distributed. District secretary-treasurer Barry Piersdorff said the increase in the overall block is 5.052 percent, but the board has also received a special purpose grant bringing the _ increase up to 6.77 percent. Piers- dorff explained that the special purpose grant is designed to help some school boards that have his- torically spent more the average per pupil ease into the block fund- ing system. The differential between the Terrace district and the provincial average is not a5. large as it was last year, however. "We've tried hard to sell them domestically, but there’s not enough demand," Cates said. Last year Eurocan exported 60,000 BDU’s (bone dry units), the equivalent of 168,000 cubic metres of wood. Under its permit Eurocan could have sold up to 100,000 BDU’s on the export market.
