The two area basketball stars are among the 14'best juniors in the land who hope to be part of the team leaving July 28 for a — major international tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fifteen had initially . been named from the dozens that tried out from Canada Day weekend until July 6. However, one of the 15 left camp last week under pressure to play for her provincial team. That cut down the odds for Michelle and Issy to make the team, knowing only two players will get the axe by the 28th. The girls are staying and train- ing on University of Toronto campus under head coach Michelle Belanger. They have daily morning workouts from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and late after- noon from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. “They told us to bring lots of spending money when we were contacted to attend the camp,” Michelle told us by phone. ‘‘They said it could end up being the better part of two months if we made the team.” ’ second | individual aggregate - title. for girls 13-and-14, the Points North swimming club ‘captured second place overall at the B.C. junior provincial championships. held June 24 at Victoria’s Crystal Pool. , The Points North club — ‘made up of members of the Ter: and Prince Rupert amateur clubs — ran up 1,892 points and the famed Canadian Dolphin swim club of Vancouver.
