Nearly 70 per cent of
respondents interviewed
for a March Gallup poll
said they would be willing
to donate one day's pay per
year for an acid rain
cleanup, says the
Canadian Coalition on Acid

’ Rain.

The results, released by
the coalition Wednesday,
were distributed less than
two weeks after it an-
nounced a similar Gallup
poll found that 65 per cent
of respondents were in
favor of splitting the costs
of reducing Inco’s acid
rain emissions between the
nickel producer and the
provincial and federal
governments.

‘The coalition, a group of
50 business and en-
vironmental organizati-
ons, said the latest poll
showed 69 per cent of the’
respondents sald they
would be willing to donate
one day’s work per year
for cleaning up acid rain in
Canada. ;

The poll, commissioned
by the coalition, ‘in-
terviewed 1,446 adults
across Canada at least 18
years old between March 1
and 3.

“Today's results are
further proof that both
levels of government in
Canada must translate
promises and statements’
of intent about acid rain
cleanup into regulatory
and - fiscal programs,”
Michael, Perley, the
coalition's excecutive
director, said in a
statement Wednesday.
‘READY TO HELP’

He added the poll results
show the Canadian public
‘4s ready to help finance a
program to protect its
future enjoyment of the
natural heritage of this
country.”

“We believe that this

$5,700 will be an attractive
gelling point, but so will the
comfort, styling and
practicality. The Skeda’s
price is nestled between the
Lada, which sells for about
$5, 000, and the Hyundai
Pony at about $5,900.

Skocar president Gary
Berger says the company
is aiming its sales strategy
at young professionals who
want a sporty car.

“We're not aiming at the
Lada market,” he says.
“Our customers are dif-
ferent; they tend to be
young professionals who
want higher-priced cars
like BMWs and Mercedes
but can’t afford them.” -
