Resigned in May, 1975 and joined Trans-Provincial Airlines for the next six months. Became an agent for Great-West Life Assurance Co, in February, Marital Status: Married Judy: (nee Bachelder): on September 30, 1961, We have three children, ages 13, £0 and 6. We raise goats, chickens, rabbits on our property at 5109 Graham‘ Avenue. + Hobbies: Fishing, Hiking, Camping, Hockey, Swim- ming. Communit Involvement: Past President, Terrace — District Chamber of Commerce; Steering Tax dollar to be used. in interest of citizens Committee, Terrace Community Forum; Treasurer, Terrace Day Care Centre; . Coach, Bantam Rep Hockey Team. I would address myself to’ the probiem of allocation of our tax dollars in a manner which would best serve the interests of our residents. Injtiate communication with provincial and federal authorities who may be in the position of extending financial assistance to communities such as ours. Examine the structure of our debt load and in- vestigate possible: capitalization of some of our expenditures. Terrace is not alone here in the northwest. Our sister communities share some of the same problems, and through cooperation we can achieve our geals more quicdy. We should work with communities like Kitimat and Prince Rupert: and the native people. Before we can seek help or cooperation from oulside we must determine what we want for Terrace. [know we’ [| would all like to be able to contro] growth as much as possible. However, I did not ask permission from any of the existing residents when I moved into Terrace four years ago. We should seek industry which will not impose an ecological hard- ship in our area and will rovide long term benefits. erhaps a fish hatchery would be a ldgical choice. The development of the Hot Springs as a recreational centre would appear to benefit the whole area. A concensus On major issues should be resolved in Council and a plan of action instituted {to correct the ~ problems, It Is the Council's duty to establish policy and _ Accountant would insist STATEMENT by David Pease lam offering myself as a candidate in the upcoming Municipal Election because’ I believe I have much to offer to the citizens of Terrace. 1. believe it would be foolish to pretend that we do not face difficult economic problems in the next year or two and I feel that my qualifications and ability as an accountant will be an asset to Council when ap- proaching these problems in a way to ensure maximum value for the taxpayer from tax dollars while also keeping taxes as low as possible. I have been a resident of Terrace for eight years and throughout that time I have been very active in the community. I am currently treasurer of the Centennial Lions Club, a member of the ‘Canadian Legion and a director of Terrace Com- munity Services Society, a member of the Chamber af Commerce and a lay reader in the Anglican Church. In previous years I have been active in the Terrace Little Theatre, Toastmasters and Masons in addition to sponsoring a teenage youth group. My reason for listing the organizations with which 1 have been involved is not to indicate that any or all of . these organizations are supporting my candidacy _ but rather to show the diversity of my activities in the community. [ am an independent candidate offering my services to the community. - Unlike some candidates I am not part of a slate and I have no pet personal - provects to. promote or axes to grind. I'am offering the ‘electorate an ‘independent voice on Council willing ‘to resent their views to council as and when they “and able ‘to give ; ‘ditional service: to “our on top value are communicated to me and willing to keep a careful, analytical eye on what value is being given for each tax dollar. [feel that I am. qualified is ad- community and ‘request your support on November 20, 1976. —e Salmon Enhancement PUBLIC MEETING — Submissions and comments are invited from individuals, groups and organizations on the following: 1) WHAT ARE LIKELY TO BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO GAIN BETTER PROTECTION OF THE SALMON AND Fisheries and Marine . I'd foster better com- munication between council and taxpayer by promoting more input from the residents. . Capable people by Bob Cooper I came to Terrace in 1927 with my parents and except for afew years in the Army I have Spent most of my life here. As a boy my favorite hunting spot was the ‘Horseshoe area” where we are having so much trouble with drainage today. Terrace has grown a lot since then and I think it must continue to grow if we are to support the amenities we have acquired and provide the services we need, ' In 1946 I went into the sawmill business and later formed the logging com- pany I still operate. The economy of Terrace is dependent on the forest industry and I feel that my experience and — un- derstanding of that industry would be an advantage on Council. - _ IL have worked in com- munity organizations such asthe Royal: Canadian Legion, the Flying Club, Curling Club and the Jaycees. -Hecently as esident of the Northwest oggers Association I worked closely with Cyril Shelford while he was manager and through him met. many members of the provincial government. Although Terrace is still basically a logging com- munity I feel we are becoming a service Centre. On the credit side we have many things going for us: our geographic location is fortunate, our grawth has been steady and we have ‘managed to. accumulate excellent facilities and amenities, We need. prac- tical, knowledgeable people on Council who can carry this advantage forward. We have to actively work with neighbouring communities, other levels of government and concerned government agencies to push for projects that will enhance our position. - Some of these projects could be: investigation of possible ferry link between THE HERALD, Wednesday, November 10, 19746, PAGE AS working together - Vancouver and Kitimat; pressure on Victoria to upgrade reads north from Terrace to Stewart: makin the most of expecte changes in the forest in- ncerned . | | tizens _ Candidates dustry; development of the Hot Springs; provision of Crown land for industrial sites. ” I believe I have ex- perience and ability to offer Council but my years in business have taught me that in order to accomplish anything you must have capable people working together with a common objective. This is why | have: Jet my namestand on a slate ? with Wayne Gaunt and Stan Kinkead. Both these men “. have lived in Terrace a comparatively short time but both have chosen to. make Terrace their home. know they have many good: ideas and together we could. make a creditable con: tribution to the future of Terrace. o ei Realty World Member Brokers If you can afford to rent, you can probably afford 20 own.
