However, it seems to me that his stress on the United Nations, as an alter- native for the war pacts now in operation, ignored the role of the present U.N. whose ac- tions brought death to Patrice Lumumba, and gave aid and, comfort to the colonists of Belgium, United States, France and Britain in the Con- go. A real United Nations must give freedom to all Al- geria, Kenya, Congo and South Africa... Douglas should have ex- plained that the U.N. must seat the representatives of People’s China in the Security Council if they want to bring peace and disarmament to the world. The Canadian people need a federal government that will change our foreign pol- icy, in a way that will stop the economic. control of our country by the U.S. We. need a statesman like Fidel Castro. Canada should be independent as Cuba is. Up the Rebels! R. Hamilton, Vancouver, writes: Please accept my hum- ble thanks for your 45th Trish Easter Rebellion anniversary contribution. This goes to An Eye-Witness Account By MAURICE RUSH HE other night while watching the arch murd- erer Adolph Eichmann on TV my mind went back three years ago when I visited the site of Buchenwald concentration camp and saw with my own eyes some of the relics of the fiendish crimes committed by this monster. Situated on a hill overlook- ing the famous German city of Weimar, the East German Government has turned Buch- enwald into an historic mus- eum as a permanent reminder for generations to come of the terrible years of Nazi rule. On the slope of the hill look- ing down towards the city they have built an impressive monument to the victims of ‘| Buchenwald. There is no attempt in East Germany to turn this concen- tration camp into something resembling a park as is being done in West Germany as part of the long range plan of the Adenauer government to wipe out the memory of those horrible years. As we entered the main gate I could not help thinking of the hundreds of thousands of unfortunate victims from many lands through these gates and of the 60,000 men, women and chil- dren murdered here, mostly by shooting and hanging. : In one corner there is a cluster of buildings surround- ed by high fences with a tall prick smokestack rising from the centre. It looked like a factory. In fact, that’s what it was: the mass murder fac- tory of Buchenwald. * I find it hard to describe in words what happened here! show up the so-called “Free Press”; Irish race horses, fairies and visiting royalty, and “dirty sixties Dief” visit- this is what they call news of Ireland. Irishmen are held without a charge or trial for years. Vicious religious apartheid is used, as race apartheid is used in South Africa. In the last elections 300,000 were cheat- ed out of a vote. Canadians should speak up in their trade unions and. other organiza~ tions and demand release of the Irish prisoners held at present in Crumbin Road prison without charge or trial.
