21 and 22, 1990, bringing together the major artistic and cultural elements within the province. In total, more than thirty well-known personalities from the artistic and cultural communities in francophone British Columbia launched a dialogue on where efforts should be focussed in order for the arts and culture to flourish in this province. This process led to the election of a provisional cultural committee with a mandate to create an autonomous cultural and artistic association. In conjunction with the Fédération, this committee has developed an agenda and budget for the upcoming year. It has also requested funding grants for the support and development of this future association. The Fédération is pursuing this issue with some optimism but remains cognizant of the fact that the current political situation is not the most favorable for creating new agencies. We have also been actively involved in preparing the second edition of the “Répertoire artistique et culturel”. We feel sure that this tool will be appreciated by both the artists and the purchasers and producers of shows within our network. Le Gala interprovincial de la chanson francaise The Fédération provided a great deal of support for the first ever interprovincial French song competition held in Edmonton. It appointed a committee to select artists to represent British Columbia and provided all the logistical support to our two representatives, Julie Gagnon and Marc Baril. We feel sure that in the not too distant future, British Columbia will hold its own provincial competition to select artists who will represent this province at future interprovincial “Galas”. Overall, this event proved to be an excellent venue for promoting artists from the francophone community in British Columbia.
