Dear Mayor Traboulay and Members of Council:

Re: Enhanced 9--1-1 Emergency Telephone System

At its meeting of January 25, 1989, the Board of Directors of the Greater
Vancouver Regional District approved the following resolutions regarding
the proposed Enhanced 9-l-1 Emergency Telephone System:

(1) That the Board approve the design of the 9-1-1 system
as proposed in the report of the Enhanced 9~1-1
Emergency Telephone System Project.

That the Board request the approval from each parti-
Cipating Municipal Council for the purchase of an
Enhanced 9-1-1 system as proposed in the report of the
Enhanced 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System Project.

That the Regional Manager be given the authority to
contract for the City of vancouver to undertake the
centralized answering operation for the Region and to
bill the Gvrp annually for the cost of this service.

These approvals were given by each Council and the report which was
discussed by the GVRD Board at its January meeting was prepared on the
basis of these preliminary approvals. The understanding has been that when
the design is finalized and the cost estimates prepared as closely as
possible, the GVRD would seek further approval from each member Municipal
Council.

In order to meet the estimated Start-up date of mid-February 1990 for the
E~9~-l—] system, it is necessary for the GVRD to have approval of the system
design from all member municipalities by the end of February this year. We
would therefore appreciate your Council’s early consideration of this
matter in order that we may proceed without delay.
