This planning activity is in _ keeping with the mandate Mental Health Services Division has been given to provide overall management co-ordination for mental health services throughout the Ministry of Health. The basic strategy underlying the planning process is to reallocate existing mental health resources so that they are more effectively and efficiently applied in a modern care system. In a document entitled “Proposals for Discussion" we outlined the principles underlying the planning process, and suggested as questions a few possible directions for the future of mental health services in British Columbia as a way of stimulating wide-ranging discussion on this important topic. Although we have not yet developed a “draft plan,” as I feel strongly that more dialogue and feedback is required, I would like to report to you on the response we have received to date, indicate problems identified, areas where a solid consensus seems to have emerged, and seek your further advice on a few issues for which no clear points of view have yet emerged. In this regard, I have attached to this letter a report on the detailed directions and questions emerging from the consultative planning process at this stage. ce eye Pe are tera nee mg Oe Rares Moh om etree me
