YEARLY SERVICE REPORT ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM 1979 The following is a review of the activities of the Animal Control Facility in the City of Port Coquitlam during the year 1979. In the review comparisons will be made from the performance in 1979 to 1978 and aiso to the year 1976 when the Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic came on stream. Firstly the number of complaints. received has shown an increase from 377 in 1978 to 458 in 1979, however, 493 dogs were impounded as cpposed to 469 in 1978. The claim ratio i.e. the number of dogs claimed to those impounded showed a ratio in 1978 of 35% in 1979 this has increased by 9 percentage points to 44% this will be an increasing, trend in future years which in turn will provide increased revenue. The number of dogs destroyed through the pound operation 80 in 1979 is down from 105 In 1978. The number of tickets Issued in 1979 is almost identical to those issued in 1978. In the area of animals destroyed as surplus to human requirements in 1976 the number was 179 this was reduced to 61 in 1978 and in 1979 further reduced to 41. The savings alone in the cost of pathological waste is obvious. . In the early part of 1980 two submissions will be made to the Municipality for consider- ation and they concern the fol lowing: a) lifetime licenses for dogs which will increase the claim rate in respect to impounded dogs b) control of the lost pet population During 1980 the following priorities have been placed on the Animal Control Facility and they are as follows: a) Improvement tn the claim rate of impounded dogs b) implementation of programmes to improve responsible pet ownership Respectfully submitted, NG) C..Jack Yomes a Secretafy-Manager CJH/rig
