DELEGATIONS : His Worship the Mayor advised that Mr. ‘Brian Keast was in attendance this eve-Civic Meda llion pres ning to receive civic recognition for his achievenents in the sport of cycling and ented to that Alderman J.d. Keryluk would be conducting the award presen itation. Alderman -outstand- ing achiev ~ments- sport of cycling Keryluk then introduced Mr. Brian 1 Keast to the members of Council and persons in the public gallery, mentioning that the avard was to have been presented at the Statutory Inaugural Council meeting held on January 7th, 1974; however, Mee) Keast was attending the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand at that tine, “and he recited a resume provided by Club member Mr. Keith B. Waiker , setting forth the background and achievements of Mr. Keast since joining the Port Coquitlam branch of the Anglia Bicycle Club in 1969. Alderman Keryluk also mentioned that Mr. Keast was one of the few athletes in Canada to be "carded" by Mare Lalonde of the Federal Government in Ottawa and Mr. Keast explained that “carding” is @ system recently implemented whereby more financial assistance would be made available for a certain number of athletes from each sport that are selected by achievement record statistics in an effort to improve the calibre of Canadian competitors in the Olympics. Alderman Keryluk then stated it gave him great pleasure to present the Civic Medallion to Mr. Keast on behalf of the City of Port Coquitian, and wished him good luck and er" cycling in 1974. Mr. Keast expressed his appreciation for the Award, and he then resumed his seat in the public gallery.
