Peyton Young adult fiction published by Delacorte Press Jenny doesn’t have much going for her. She lives on the edge of what was once a great estate in a run-down Victorian flint- stone cottage with her embittered mother and disabled father. If it weren’t for Murphy, her Irish/gypsy grandfather, Jenny’s life would be as bleak as the view from her bedroom window. Murphy collects stray animals like other people collect coins or - stamps. So Jenny wasn’t surprised when he bought a young thoroughbred colt that nobody wanted because he was too small and too unmanageable. What did surprise Jenny, though, was when she discovered the colt was for her. With no proper place to keep him or even any way of training him, Jenny isn’t sure what she’s going to do with this animal. Because of his dark coat and even darker nature, Jenny names her colt Darkling. A raging tempest with everyone else, including ‘Murphy, Darkling is as gentle as a newborn kitten with Jenny. As her love for the animal grows daily, Jenny discovers another kind of love, and in the process unearths an old family secret that threatens to destroy everything. ..
