Carried. NEW BUSINESS: His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay issued the following press release Mayor L.M. Traboulay of the City of Port Coquitlam today announced that the City’s ongoing negotiations with Canada Post regarding the installation of Supermailboxes in Port Coquitlam has come to a conclusion. Mayor Traboulay stated that despite the protracted period of negotiations - over 18 months - Caiazla Post was unwilling to allow Port Coquitlam to control Supermailbox locations to overcome residents’ objections to aesthetic and nuisance concerns. Mayor Traboulay said that the Port Coquitlam Council worked many long hours to come up with a suitable arrangement that satisfied Canada Post but also allowed citizen complaints over Supermailbox locations to be effective. In the end, however, Canada Post was unwilling to depart form its nationwide standard. So long as the various criteria such as traffic safety, public utility protection, and mail delivery criteria are met a Supermailbox may now be installed, notwithstanding citizen complaints about the location. "Port Coquitlam” said the Mayor, “will still be actively involved in what Canada Post calls the ‘normal municipal concerns'".
