RE: Development Variance Permit Procedure

COUNCIL

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council | adopt the following

procedure of Informing neighbours of the
dare for Council consideration of a
variance permit.

A notice Is to be mailed, informing
residents of properties surrounding a
development variance application. The
notice would inform them of their right to
attend Council and express :their opinion
about the appiication or to write a letter
to Councl! about the development propcsal.

The notification of surrounding property
owners of an application for a development
varfance [is to be by letter to fots within
a 60 metre (200 foot) radius.

COMMENTS:

This procedural change recommendation is being. proposed to

bring the development variance permit procedure more in line
with the procedure followed by the Board of Variance. The
reason for this proposal Is that City Council Is acting Ina

similar role to the Board to Variance In considering requests
for variances,

There is no proviston for. notification of surrounding residents
contained in the Municipal Act. The procedure being
recommended, however, is to follow principles of natural
