‘ ‘THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM | C 0 MEMORANDUM OCT 20 $989 TO: Mayor and Council ‘October 9, 1980 FROM: Parks and Recreation Committee RE: Sale of Trees from City Nursery A recommendation to sell the remaining trees in the City nursery was discussed by Council in Committee in April. The month of November would be a suitable time for these treeu to be sold and replanted. The Committee recommends that trees from the nursery be made avallable to the public for $1.00 each on one weekend in November and that the sale be advertised in the local papers two weeks in advance. The public would be required to dig up their own trees and to carry them away under supervision by the Parks Department. There is not expected to be much profit to'‘the City from this sale due to the cost of advertising and of having employees present on overtime for the weekend. Another approach which the City could take would be to make the trees available to some charitable organization on the understanding that they would seil the trees to raise funds for the organization and would pay the City a royalty for each tree sold. Pending discussion by Council, we have not discussed this possibility with any outside organization and therefore are not sure whether this approach would be workable, Respectfully submitted, F.E.
