Reds in troubled These are troubled limes for the Terrace Reds, Not only are they hurting with several players out of the line-up wilh injuries, but they've run into — some player problems and as a resull have had to carry some pretly smail rosters in recent games. Such was the case last weekend when the team travelled to Houston with onl eight men. According to L’Estrange, Terrace fans could see a marked change in the teams style of play during the next few weeks. Instead of the strategy thal saw the team bunting when they had a man on base during the recent Terrace tournament lhey could go more towards hit and run style of baseball. “ . L'Estrange said the style was better for the team, better, for the fans and produced winning ball clubs. : With regards to the team injuries it is* expected utility fielder Brant Arnold-Smith will be back within twa weeks. Arnold-Smith has his hand broken when hit by a pitched ball. Caleher George Paulson, who also represents con- - siderable power ai bai, will be back in about three weeks. Paulson had. a. knuckle .shal-. tered on his right hand when he gol in the way of a foul tig. - The pitching staff also is weakened. Gerry Monsees is still nol fully recovered from a sore elbow he has been nursing all season. Larry had control problems at the starl of the year but is slarting to come around. Laurie Arnold-Smith had proved invaluable to the team as a relief pitcher. Playground hours The Department of Parks and Recreation announced changes in the hours of their summer playground Monday. The new hours are effective immediately al all playgrounds. Playground locations are at Cassie Hall School in the Keith Estates area; Clarence Michael and Caledonia in the horseshoe area and Uplands school in the bench area. The new hours see the program operating from 9:30 a.m, to 12 noon and1p.m lo 4 p.m, Monday to Friday. The old hours had a half haur less lime in the morning and a half hour more in the afternoon. The director of recreation, Jon Gurban, told the Herald that response to the playground program has been gratifying so far, wilh a good turn out. He also had words of praise for the leaders of the playgrounds, saying they were doing an excellant job ‘keeping the children active. ‘ “The program,” he said, '” is really shaping up this year. Government of British Columbia ; Lacrosse The Terrace Minor Lacrosse Association recently ended it's second full season of play, a seaon which saw 130 youngsters of both sexes competing for several weeks, In all there were eight teams of youngsters in- volved in league play in three divisions, ; During the latter stages of the season Terrace teams played a series of exhibition games against Kitimal opponents. Although no wins were taillied by the Terrace leams, the league executive feels that, lacrosse in Terrace has come a long way and that already in- dications point to a strong one of developed lacrosse players. The Association feels strongly that it's future lays in the . strength of this core. A considerable amount of time and effort was put into the building and running of the League and they would like at this time lo thank all those who helped coach, keep lime, keep seare, referee and serve the interests of the Terrace youngsters in many capacilies.
