The school, whose location and name will be determined during the summer, is the culmination of almost four years of hard work by a group of dedicated pa- rents. Thanks to those parents’ efforts, students will now be able to learn in French in this picturesque southeastern BC town, nestled in the heart of the Columbia Mountains. Shortly after hearing the good news, Caroline Grenier declared, “Here in Revelstoke, we are extremely excited and we are ready to take the next steps!” Ms. Grenier started the group which has invested considerable time and energy into identifying, uniting La voix des parents de Colombie-Britannique and _ informing francophone parents in the region. The parent group will soon hold a consultation to select a name for the new school, and also establish a properly constituted school parents’ association. According fo Ms. Gre- nier, in addition to the twelve students registered to begin their French-lan- guage education this fall, the group has compiled a list of some thirty child- ren whose parents want them to at- tend francophone school when they reach school age. During its May 26 meeting this year, the CSF (francophone schoo! autho- rity) Board of Trustees unanimously approved a motion to authorize the opening of the new school. The CSF feels that the Revelstoke school will become, over time, as important a francophone elementary school as the institutions in Nelson, Rossland, Chil- liwack and Kamloops. Indeed, as wit- nessed in other regions of the province, the new school is likely to attract new francophone families. This will help to increase the overall CSF student enroll- ment, which has continued to grow over the past seven years. The Fédération des parents, which supported the Revelstoke parents’ application, salutes their commitment and determination and is thrilled to welcome them into the BC _ franco- phone education family. We send our very best wishes for a bright future for the new school and its community!
