COUNCIL AUG 1 4 1972 DEPARTMENT OF LANDS. FORESTS, AND WATER RESOURCES OFPIGE OF THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF WATER RESOURCES VICTORIA, bc. July 28th, 1972 Files 0257789 #13 Me. R. A. Preeman, city Clerk, The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia Dear Sir: Reference is made to your letter of July 20th, concerning flood protection works in the Coquitlam area. With respect to the maintenance of ditches and the cperation of pumps, it is understood that you have been advised in this regard by the Inspector of Dykes. |; The City of Port Coquitlam made application under the Fraser River Flood Control Program. In the scheduling of projects throughout the Lower Fraser Valley under this Program, the drainage aspects of the Coquitlam Dyking District have already been initiated. Field work commenced last winter and this will be followed by an engineer- ing evaluation of drainage requirements and the works needed to meet those xequirements behind the dykes of the Coquitlam Dyking District. The . dyke reconstruction and hank protection requirements will also be determined. In the meantime, there would be some decided advantage if the question of the future administration of this dyked-rrotected area coulé be settled. This matter has been referred to in general discussions in the past. The City should now take steps to assume the administration of the dyking works. Since the Dyking District extends into the Municipality of Coquitlam, an inter-municipal agreement will probably be necessary. Talks with the Municipality could be initiated now in this direction.
