a ry Af That Coquitlam urges that as soon as the design team have completed design of the Edmonds-Lougheed Mall segment, they continue with design of the onward extension to Coquitlam Centre, so that appropriate accommodation can be made as adjacent lands develop; and Coquitlam urges commitment to an accelerated schedule for construction of the Lougheed Mall to Coquitlam Town Centre segment; the needs of Northeast Sector commuters have been neglected for too long and the projected 2001 completion date must be advanced. Council advise B.C. Transit of its preferences for an Edmonds Corridor for the Coquitlam A.L.R.T. extension because: a) the Broadway Corridor, while having substantially higher Capital and operating costs, offers no significant travel time advantage; the almost, $400 million additional cost of the Broadway Corridor is likely to defer by many years the availability of capital funds’ for construction to Coquitlam's Town Centre; the Broadway Corridor does not offer the connection to other Regional Town Centres that has always been part of the rationale for the A.L.R.T. system; the Broadway Corridor does not meet the needs of the many Northeast Sector commuters whose destination is along the present A.L.R.T. route east of Broadway Station in New Westminster or Burnaby;
