Introduction '

Mayor de Jong's letter expresses concern reqarding the
sharp increase in Library costs as detailed in’ the Provisional

.Budget. I must emphasize that this is a Provisional Budget and

that it has not been discussed in detail as yet by the 'new
Board of Management.

Mayor de Jong has also requested Council's reaction
to the Provisional Budget and has asked Council for any
suggestions they might have regarding areas where Savings could
be made. These comments have been requested prior to January
7th, 1981, at which time the Board of Management will be

discussing the Provisional Budget.

Book Stock

One of the reasons for the large increase in the
proposed 1981 Budget is the proposed $1,000,090 books and
periodicals operating budget which is up from the 1989 fiqure

of $575,000.
