VICTORIA Op PROVINCE OF vp C 830-66 isn cow IN YOUR REPLY REFER TO FILE wren. May 28, 1975 The Corporatior of the City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia WBC 248 Attention: R.A. Freeman, Esa. City Clerk - Dear Mr. Freemans Re: Firearm T.erislation The Honourable the Attorney-General has asked me to thank you for your April 23, 1975 letter containing a resolution . passed by your Municipal Council on April 21st last. Because of the considerable concern presently being expressed by the public and in the press about gun control and the very real demand for more effective gun control legislation in “Canada, the Commissioner of the R.C.M.Police, as the National - Registrar of Firearms, in co-operation with the Federal Ministry of the Solicitor-General of Canada, is sponsoring a National Registrars of Firearms Conference this June 2nd and 3rd in Ottawa. B.C.'s Attorney-General's Department will be represented at this National Conference. The Attorney~General recognizes and supports the legitimate use of certain firearms by competent and responsible sportsmen. This class poses few problems. However, it is that other class, the indiscriminate, irresponsible, incompetent, mentelly unstable or criminal user which causes concern and prompts demand for reform in gun legislation. Mr. Macdonald and his officials continue to press for reforms in this area. ke DUCA tae teeeamman cee Yours ve Ly, Ga IE WeD. Stewart, wos/dv Departmental Solicitor
