Carried, Alderman Mabbett referred to a: problem in developing new subdivisions caused by existing sidewalks being broken out to obtain road access, such as the one on Prairie Avenue at. Cedar. Drive, where the sidewalk has been left in a state of dis- repair for several months, and one newly started on Cedar Drive just one block North of Prairie, where the ruble has been piled so. that it obstructs the path of pedestrians. The. City Engineer advised that sufficient funds are. deposited 6, however, members of Council expressed concern that pedestrians have to walk out ith the City by: developers to guarantee that this sort of. thing can be corrected; _on the road to avoid the piled cuttings, and Alderman Traboulay requested the City Engineer to instruct the developer of the subdivision on Cedar Drive to have the sidewalk repaired by 4:30 p-m., Tuesday, October 2nd, 1973. Alderman Traboulay referred to the apparent. increase in breaking and entering offences, mentioning one incident in particular where three youths were apprehen~ ded burglarizing a. small stere; however, as two were juveniles, they were releas-~ ed the next day and returned to school where they proceeded to discuss the affair in a jesting manner with other students, and he proposed the following motion: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That this Council meet. with Mayor J.L. Tonn of the District of Coquitlam and make a joint submission to the Attorney-General that more probation officers be. placed at the Justice Building.
