Pre-Christmas Wanders Phone requests still come in to the office about whether the Guild is having their annual sale at Rebson Square “this year?” My standard response is that the Guild hasn't given it up for ever, “Keep tuned!", and encourage them instead to drop by the Gallery, Meanwhile, individuals continue to hold their own pre-Christmas sales and fairs with obvious continued success. I don't think I shall forget the look on the faces of Jackie White, Gail Krushinsky, Nora Gibson, and Mary Miller of the Downstairs Potters, after the first day of their sale at Mary’s home, They'd been virtually cleaned out, and were in a state of shock, wondering how they would face the next day's crowd with so littl stock! I think they survived! I got to the opening of Judy Cranmer's show in North Vancouver's Seymour Art Gallery at the end of Novem- ber, In an exhibition entitled “Feat of Clay’, Judy's work this fall has been a major leap of faith for her. She admits she’s always wished she could also be a weaver, and she has effectively dealt with this by making wall pieces, some multt-panelled in triptych ar more formation, often using inlays of different col- oured clay to strengthen patterns, and then painstak- ingly slip-painting the traditional colours and pat- terns of largely North American native weavers on these panels. The effect is unique. personal, and very striking. Don't often go into Bowerings, and in the past when I did. I was often disappointed that relatively so few of our local artisans were represented, However, the other night I happened by the Royal Centre's branch, and spotted a stunning joint display of Rita Row- botham’'s and Alan and Jane Grout's functional work: Rita's porcelain in blue and white, - an almost sponged-ware quality, and the Grout's extruded harisome stoneware in solid blue tones. Along with several others from G.C..~Andrew and Joyce Cam- midge and L. Walton, finally a much broader local rep- resentation! Hope you all have had a good holiday after working hard all fall, and that your efforts were well rewarded. Jan Kidnie
