-2- Three or four people expressed definite support for the building, indicating their belief that the time has come for such type of development in the Downtown Area, and that the building responded to the intent of the plans for the area as they understood. Three or four people expressed opposition to the project, as residents of the building located immediately south of the proposed building. Their opinion was that, while the building was attractive and appropriate in the Downtown Area, this was not a proper location because it would cut their views and, most important, it would reduce the amount of light in their apartments (although they realized that there was not a problem with shadows). There was also some concerns regarding the building process, in particular with regard to the vibration of the ground during piling. The applicant submitted the attached letter from his Engineer indicating that "H" type piles, that cause minimum vibration will be used. A number of other concerns and ideas were exchanged, including some discussion about the advantages of having a taller or shorter building, the levels of density the Downtown Area may reach in 20, 40, 50, years from now and, as expected, the traffic situation was also discussed. _ The Director of Planning provided some information as to the status of the main works under way that may help alleviate the transit problems; an interesting discussion took place regarding everybody's image of Fort Coquitlam in future. In conclusion, the three or four residents living immediately behind this building expressed their preference of having this site remain undeveloped or being developed with a much lower building (not to exceed three storeys) while the rest of the residents, the majority of whom lived in very close proximity of the proposed building, expressed acceptance or enthusiastic support for the building. DISCUSSIGN: The Public Information Meeting on this building did not generate as much interest as cyuld have been expected. The opposition to the proposal came from immediate neighbours who: have enjoyed for some time the advantages of being the tallest building in the area and the benefits of openness and views that result from this situation. It is reasonable that they have concerns about a change in their immediate environment. Cont 'd.../3
