SUBJECT: PROPOSED PROVINCIAL BEVERAGE CONTAINER LEGISLATION
(Environmental Committee Meeting March 3, 1993)

RECOMMENDATION:

That Council endorse and support in principal the resolution of the District of North Vancouver
regarding the proposed Provincial Beverage Container Legislation, recognizing that the impact
and cost implications to the taxpayers of such legislation is not known at this tume.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

Consideration was given to the District of North Vancouver’s resolution regarding the proposed
Provincial Beverage Container Legislation. The resolution is outlined in the attached
correspondence from Colleen G. Rohde, Manager Legislative Services.

The Committee fully endorsed the resoluticn noting that an expanded deposit - refund system is
a positive step in deal'ng with beverage containers. Jt was recognized that with any new
program there are associated costs. However, it is not known at this time what the impact and
cost implications to the tax payer will be with such legislation.
