BACKGROUND : On October 28, 1991, after a Public Information Meeting on home businesses, Council directed Planning Staff to draft a Bylaw to regulate accessory home buainesses in Port Coquitlam. At the Public Information Meeting, concerns raised by the attendees included the types of businesses that would be permitted, and potential traffic and noise impacts. However, there was overwhelming support to permit accessory home businesses. RESEARCH: Staff conducted research into Accessory Home Business Bylaws of other municipalities. In general, all bylawa are similer with minor variations with respect to the permission of outside employees, of businesses in multi-family zones, and of exterior signage. A draft Zoning Bylaw Amendment for the City of the Port Coquitlam is attached in Appendix I. It is based on similar bylaws and has been modified to address local concerns that were raised at the Public Information Meeting.
