RECOMMENDATION: That City Council direct ‘the City Clerk to prépare a “Bylaw for this
: rezoning application. '

OBSERVATIONS:
This application to bring an existing extended care hospital into the zoning’ bylaw. personal

care, Special Institutional District. -Presently, the hospital is operating as a limited
facility under the RS-1 District, restricted to (10) ten ambulatory quests,

Due to changes in provincial government, extended care hospital financing, the Mary Hill
Hospital now falls under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resources. To meet that
agencies requirements the hospital is rezoning to expand their service beyond (10) beds.

Comments of the administration in reviewing this application relate to emergency measures, :
indicating that patients are to be limited to ambulatory cases as opposed to bedridden patient
.are housed in the hospital, eg. widen doors to accommodate evacuation of beds.

The hospital is aware of this building requirement and that annual inspections for compliance
are conducted by the Fire Department.

In conclusion, a recommendation of approval for this application is recommended. With respec: :
to limiting paticnts, authority to regulate this lies with the Fire Department outside the
Zoning regulations.
