July 7th, 1980. NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Gates referred tc the U.B.C.M. resolution regarding control of toxic pesticides and herbicides and asked that an amendment be made. Moved by Alderman Gates: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the Union of British Columbia Municipalities resolution made previously by the Council regarding the control of toxic pesticides and herbicides be amended to include only municipalities. Carried. Alderman Traboulay expressed concern regarding the odor prevalent in the agricultural area. Alderman Traboulay expressed concern regarding the litter around the Mary Hill Jr. Secondary School and the Central Elementary School and suggested the City take over the maintenance of school property. Alderman Mabbett suggested that a meeting be set up with the School Trustees from Port Coquitlam to discuss this. Alderman Traboulay referred to the house on Shaughnessy Street owned by the Department of Highways which is still boarded up and expressed his appreciation regarding the near completion of the right turn lane from Lougheed Highway to Shaughnessy Street. Alderman Mabbett referred to the rumour that the downtown liquor store may be closed down and asked that a letter be sent to the downtown merchants advising them there is no truth to the rumour. Alderman Traboulay suggested a letter be sent to the Liquor Administration Board asking for written confirmation that the downtown liquor store located on Marpole Avenue will not be closing down. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That a letter be sent to the Liquor Administration Board asking for written confirmation that the liquor store on Marpole Avenue would not be closed down. Alderman Mabbett advised sideyard regulations are not being followed for new lots and suggested 10% for interior sideyards and 20% for exterior sideyards be implemented overall.
