The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, April 13 2005 - A114 TERRACE IS STRONG AND MOVING FORWARD! Le i We, along with | many. other businesses in Terrace, have just received a package labelled. “Jobs” which included the usual Save-the- Northwest propaganda of news articles, speeches, agreements, as well as a cover letter from Philip Germuth stating “Terrace | is Dying” and the reason is power sales. We take vigorous exception to this. | | a Terrace has been ‘struggling economically like many resource based communities in ‘the -Province; but, Terrace is not dying! The people and businesses of Terrace have been working. we incredibly hard to rejuvenate its economy, we are prepared to fight for every job we can get. here and we are winning. We recognize that there are opportunities on our horizon that we cra! are well positioned to take advantage of and \ we are going to do that. oo We need power sales. We need power sales to power -the communities of Terrace, Smithers, we ie Vanderhoof and yes, Kitimat, so that BC Hydro does not have to'import even more power. We need power sales so Alcan can efficiently and productively manage their resources. We | 7 need Power sales for economic diversification i in the northwest. | mo ~ Your “dream” of ‘taking all that power. and putting it into one plant is economic folly. We. ~ would have an infinitely stronger economy if we maximized its use by making it available. to a broader range of industries, manufacturing and service businesses rather than one | business only. : 7 es | : 7 We encourage and support . Alcan’ Ss. commitment to the Northwest. We recognize them to. ne be the main foundation of our economy. What we need is the security of their long term commitment to our area. | _ “The world has actually changedsince 1950. == = |. When global economics dictate, as they do to every other major company in the world, that there will be a loss of jobs because of technological change, we can accept this and move . on. What we need to do now is work hard to encourage Alcan’s reinvestment and attract other investors to our region. | Unfortunately, ¢ this will never come about given the adversarial, poisonous atmosphere to _ business investment that has been created in Kitimat. Do not try and involve our community | _of Terrace and our businesses in this. x - Terrace is ready to meet the challenges of the future head on! — es KRA-MAR INVESTMENTS.
