Wednesday morning practices started at 5:30, while Saturday practices began at 7 a.m. And until she got a car, Caxford was cy- cling everywhere. But that didn’t seem to slow her down, She’s taking a full course load, studying linguistics, and says she’s doing well. Coxford says she’s won a couple of medals at varsity meets and she’s fairly happy with ber performances. The butterfly is her specialty, but she will occasionally swim freestyle as well. She says varsily swimming is quite a bit different than training with the Bluebacks. ‘Here they focus on more specific things,’’ she says. “In Terrace it was just more all out hard- core training,” Coxford took a year and haif off swim- ming when she developed shoulder prob- lems, but decided to give it a shot again in Victoria, And she doesn’t regret it for a moment, “It’s a lot of fun,’’ she says. ‘'The swim team does a lot of things to- gether and in a year we’ve become really chose? She chose U-VIC because she didn’t want to be too far away from home. Coxford swims with about 25 others on the varsity ‘‘B’’ team, while there are six swimmers on the ‘A’? side, One of the those recently qualified for the Olympics in the 200 meter breast-stroke. The two teams practiced together twice a week. The varsity season ended a month ago, and once Coxford's exams are done at the end of the this month she’s returning to Terrace for the summer.
