Married in the manse “(minister's residence) in Burns: Lake. Their honeymoon was held at Skeena Crossing, near Gitsequecla. That was then the farthest point west of Burns Lake you could travel to by car. Janet, Margaret’s sister, was maid of honour while George, brother of Louis, was bestman. Louis, who was born in a tent pitched in the centre of Edmon- ton in-1913, worked in the logg- ing industry for mast of his: working career. - .Margaret, her maiden name is Gilgan, was born in 1921 at Southbank, B.C., across Fran-: ‘eois Lake south of Burns Lake. She was the fifth of 11 children. Moving to Terrace in 1948, the young family took up residence at the George Thain ‘home. Louis started work at Columbia Cellulose in 1953, retiring at age 65 in 1978. Many visitors came from out of town to help them.celebrate ‘at the family dinner and dance held at the Thornhil] Communi- ty Hall Sataurday July, 14. “;Members : of the extended ‘family each presented Margaret ‘and Louis with a yellow rose, and Tom Harris sang a ballad called “‘Another 50 Years’ as well as one he wrote especially for them. A gorgeous anniversary cake was made and decorated by their daughter Robbe, the music was by the Old Time Fiddlers of Smithers and the catering was — provided by Marg and Howard Cromarty. . - The next day was spent talk- ing, eating and saying -good- byes to old friends at an open house and picnic held at the Kin Hut. The couple have five daughters; Margaret Louise, Karen Kathleen, Patricia Bar- bara, Sandra Mae and Robbe Susanne. FIFTY YEARS of marriage by Louis and Margaret Gair were celebrated recently with several social occasions attended by friends and relatives. They've lived here since 1948. Groups add to weekend The many events of River- boat Days are once again hap- pening in the first week of August. with fun and hopefully gun for everyone. The Riverboat Days Society ‘salutes three local groups this week, starting with the Nor- thern Motor Inn. ’ It is putting on a Slingers Race for waiters and waitresses from licensed bars and restaurants. You'll get a real good view of O.K. : kkk kkk Kitsumkalum chief Chiff Bolton is trying to get eight peo- ple together for a great day of scenery on an all-day journey to Prince Rupert on the band’s 25-foot river boat. The boat will stop at Port Essington, and if time permits will go, for a 12-mile ride up the ‘Eestall River to Brown’s Mill, a small, old sawmill powered by a waterfall. This is adifferent type of race . because there are 5,000 tiny, wooden boats.
