In addition, the Government will draw $140 .miliion fram surplus funds. for special projects, making total planned expenditures of $2,313,000,000. This is an increase of 28.2 per cent over Lhe previous year, “Despite major innovative social policies, aur Government has been prudent....None of the spending programmes proposed in (this) budget will require an increase in lax rales for the individual citizen,” Barrett told the Legislature. He said the province’s in- creased .revenues from im- proved resource. management and the pravince’s expanding economy have enabled the Government. to implement major social programmes. Among the new programmes promised in the budget speech were: Introduction, of a $30 renters prant to residents up to age 65.
