August 8th, 1977 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chamber, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B. C., on August 8th, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. His Worship Mayor J.M. Campbell, Aldermen G.R. Laking, E.W. Mabbett, P.F. Ranger, and M.A. Thompson in attendance. Also in attendance were Chief Administrative Officer L.D. Pollock, City Clerk R.A. Freeman, Assistant City Engineer L. Melnechenko, P. Eng., Recreation Director Janna Taylor, City Treasurer J.G.S. Maitland, Fire Chief W.S. Wingrove, Works & Utilities Superintendent G. Ulmer, and Mrs. B.M. Aalten. Mayor Campbell His Worship the Mayor then gave a special welcome to a number of Welcome to Sr. Citizens in Senior Citizens who were in attendance and commented that it was nice to attendance see them at the meeting. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Minutes July 11/77 Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on July iith, 1977, -be taken as read and adopted. Carried. DELEGATIONS: The City Clerk then advised that a delegation from the B.C. Old Age OAPA re Sr. Citizens' Pensioners' Association, Branch No. 21, -was in attendance this evening, meeting hall facility, etc. represented by a Committee of Mrs. Mary Routley, Mrs. Joey Sailes, and Mr. Harold Pritchett, for the purpose of presenting a brief from that organization concerning an adequate meeting hall for its membership. Mr. Harold Pritchett, acting as spokesman for the group, referred to the brief from the 0.A.P.A., wherein it was proposed that a senior citizens' centre, similar to the recently dedicated "Dogwood Hall" in the District of Coquitlam, be constructed on City land, and that the Federal Government be requested to provide Funds, under the New Horizons Branch, for the building of such a facility, possibly assisted by a matched grant from the Provincial Government. Alderman Laking inquired whether the proposed extension of the present senior citizens' facility at the Port Recreation Centre would be adequate to meet the needs of the Association, and Mr. Pritchett replied that it would not, in view of the present growth of the membership.
