November 17th, 1975 Moved by Alderman Ranger: seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a report from the Public Works Committee, November 14th, 1975, the Welcher Avenue Dump remain open until after Sunday, December 14th, 1975, and remain closed until Sunday, March 7th, 1976, except for opening on Sunday, January lith, 1976 for the disposal of Xmas trees. Carried. Leisure Act.Comm. From the Leisure Activities Committee, November 14th, 1975, submitting re Jr. Hockey Team a proposal from Mr. P.G. Rodgers, Managing Director, Columbia West Sports Enterprises Ltd., dated October 17th, 1975, with respect to the formation of a Junior Hockey team, and advising that the present ice schedule is full with various bookings. A discussion ensued and Alderman Keryluk suggested that further information on the proposal be obtained from the League President prior to consideration by Council, and Alderman Laking stated he agreed, particularly with respect to the ice-time schedule and the question of whether additional seating would be required, and he suggested that the request be tabled for three weeks; however, Alderman Thompson commented that if the league would not be starting until September next, the applicant should be advised that nothing will be done this year, and @ Alderman Mabbett pointed out that the purpose of the report was to advise that the Committee had no intention of altering the present schedule. Alderman Ranger stated his concern that the participation concept would be lost during 'prime time’ if the request was approved. Alderman Keryluk referred to the time element in further considering the request, and pointed out that because of league regulations, this matter should be dealt with as quickly as possible. Alderman Ti aboulay expressed concern at the possible re-scheduling of ice-time for minor hockey in the event the proposal was approved, and he made the following motion: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the proposal set forth in a report from the Leisure Activities Committee, November 14th, 1975, with respect to the formation of a Junior Hockey team, be referred back to the Recreation Director to answer some of the questions raised by the Council debate thereon.
