COUNCIL. JAN 6 1985 AL 405 BARLOW AVENUE, QUESNEL, B.C. V2J 2C3 — PHONE (604) 992-2111 OFFICE OF THE MAYOR December 17, 1985 Mayor and Council City of Port Coguitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B. C. V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor and Council: The Council of the City of Quesnel has recently adopted the attached resolution petitioning the federal government to immediately reduce the federal tax on all fuel and petroleum products in an effort to stimulate the Canadian economy. The resolution is self-explanatory and for your further information, we have determined that the amount of. federal and provincial taxes on a litre of regular gasoline is currently as follows: . - Provincial sales tax 8.23¢ - Federal sales tax 3.26 ~ Federal excise tax 3.50 Various federal income tax and royalties on crude oil.and on refining process 15.10 Total 30.09¢ per litre Our Council feels very strongly that such a reduction would serve as a symbol of anti-inflation and act as a powerful financial stimulant to the Canadian economy. In this respect, we encourage the endorsement of your municipality or organization in submitting a similar resolution to petition the Prime Minister of Canada in this regard. I: is respectfully suggested that all letters of support or similar resolutions be submitted during the latter week of January in 1986 to achieve the strongest possible impact. If we can supply further information, please advise. MICHAEL L. PEARCE, MAYOR MLP:mm /Encl. 183
