s this Lumberworker goes to press we are literally hours away from a federal election. Finally Cana- dians will have the opportunity to use the ballot box to show their opposition to the policies of the Mulroney government. As far as elections go it will be an exciting one. All three parties are within striking distance. There are but a few percentage points separat- ing them. For Ed Broad- bent this will be the first election that has seen him start as high in the polls as he is. That and Broad- bent’s formidable campaigning skills make for a potent NDP combination. Ed Broadbent loves to campaign; he loves the cut and thrust of debate and he loves to have the kind of intense contact with people that only a federal election can bring. His performance in the 1984 campaign is evidence of that. He took the party from 11 percent in the polls to over 20 percent on election day. See page 8 OUT OF THE GATE LUMBERWORKER/OCTOBER, 1988/7
