It is being used day and night, the report stated, on a shift basis, starting at 8:00 a.m. Over- flow classes are being held in some High Schools. The resolution recommended by the Committee and approved by the Council asked the Provin- cial Government to urge the Fed- eral Government to increase its financial aid. It was further re- quested that this subsidy be ex- tended over a ten-year period in order to enable proper planning. The Committee reported that it was securing expert technical opinion on the flood problems causing distress on the North Shore. Act Violated The Provincial Government was asked to note the provisions of several acts which prohibit the charging of a fee in respect of those seeking employment, on the ground that information will be supplied regarding employers having job opportunities. Because of evidence supplied the Council, the Provincial Gov- ernment was asked to conduct a rigorous investigation. The reso- lution also called upon affiliated unions to report any infractions of the Act. The Committee also expressed concern regarding private insti- tutions offering vocational courses for tradesmen and charging high fees. In this respect the Provin- cial Government was asked to establish an adequate system of inspection to protect prospective students. Following the discussion of the above resolutions, Labour Min- ister Lyle Wicks was found to be in attendance, and he was promptly asked to address the Council and state his views, He did so, and promised the dele- gates that all the legislative mat- ters discussed would be fully considered. He was thanked by President Lloyd Whalen. Nominations were received for the election of officers. The nominations of Lloyd Whalen and E. A. Jamieson for the posts of President and General Secretary- Treasurer respectively were not contested. Nominations ‘will re- main open until the next meeting when elections will be held.
