Students Describe UBC Needs to IWA

Over seven hundred students living in these huts, share one wash basin with seven other

students, a shower with 15, a bathtub with 33, a toilet with 11, and a phone with 73.

POVERTY STRICKEN appearance of the curtains in the one auditorium is shown to

after viewing the dirty walls, cracked plaster, and chipped paint is bound to come away
with a feeling of depression.

CONTRASTING the run-down appearances of the old dormitories, is this new women’s
dormitory, one of three constructed for Ist year women students. New women students
unable to find accommodation in these buildings must stay in the old huts with the
advanced students.

OLD CONVERTED ARMY HUTS, Hans Jonsson learns, now house. research laboratories

with valuable equipment which, needless to say, is thus exposed to fire risks when
stored in such dilapidated and inflammable quarters as these.

NEW PHYSICS BUILDING, Carl Jonsson explains to his father, is the
type of building so desperately needed at the University, to give proper

accommodation for departments of architecture, commerce, social science,
music and chemistry laboratories,
