“Point of
No Return”

To a navigator flying the ocean, P.N.R. means “Point
of No Return”. Before a flight, and constantly during
flight, the navigator balances factors of fuel consumption,
weather and altitude, and estimates the P.N.R. Beyond
this point the fuel supply will be insufficient to permit a
return to the shore he has left. If he estimates that when
he reaches the point of no return he will be short of fuel
to complete the crossing, he turns back at once.
Too many men in industry | —

DECEMBER FIRE

It was on the fateful day of December 30, 1903, that 575
persons lost their lives in the Iroquois Theater fire in Chicago.
And just nine years ago—December 7, 1946—119 persons died
in the Atlanta Hotel fire. Statistics show that the number of

fire fatalities in December ranks high on the list when com-
pared with other months.

Fire is always tragic, but especially so during the Christ-
mas season. You can help keep your holidays happy and free

from fire by making a mental note of’ tRese fire safety re-
minders.

% Gift wrappings can become a fire hazard. Keep them picked
up off the floor and put away in a waste basket or box.

* If you dress up as Santa Claus for the kids, make sure that

the costume, particularly the whiskers and hair, are fire-
proof.

* Keep your Christmas tree in water before and during the
time it is up. And don’t leave it up too long. It will become
dry and.easy prey for fire,

%* Place the tree well away from any fireplace or stove. Watch
your cigarettes—keep them a safe distance from the tree.

%* Don’t use light fixtures that have worn insulation. Don't use
more than seven 7-light sets or five 15-light sets on one
circuit. Keep metallic tinsel from contact with light sockets.

Disconnect the tree lights when

you're leaying home or goin;
to bed. 2

Eliminate fire hazards and keep the holiday spirit cheerful
—not tearful.
