KEEN COMPETITION in one of the contests organized by the committee in charge at the Social Evening sponsored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Local 1-217 IWA, proved an excellent “mixer”, and made everybody feel well acquainted with everybody else. Ladies’ Social Makes Big Hit Successful social evening was held by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Local 1-217, IWA in the Steel Hall, November 22, as part of their program to arouse interest in the work of their organization. The gathering was predomin- ately made up of the ladies, for the appeal had gone out to wo- menfolk of IWA members. The attendance was evidence of the popularity of the Auxiliary. The evening’s festivities were opened by President Lloyd Whal- en who stressed the importance of the work undertaken by the Auxiliary in building the Union. He appealed for greater support from among the members’ wives. Some History An interesting glimpse into the early history of the IWA was provided, when the Presi- dent told how the ladies made it possible for the Union to get its first meeting place in Van- couver. Mrs. Pat Fulljames, Vice-Presi- dent, presided at the opening ceremonies. Mrs. Rossie Cum- mins acted as Mistress of Cere- monies, and promoted some in- teresting and varied entertain- ment, which required everyone’s participation. By the time the delightful re- freshments were served, everyone present had been drawn into the Auxiliary’s circle of sociability. “SUPPORT THE AUXILIARY” GENERAL al sanowi FLAVOR + FRESHNESS BAKERIES’ LIMITED @ great Union. an appeal for support, reminding the Ia Auxiliary Calllssued District Council No. 1 IWA has issued an invitation to the IWA Ladies’ Auxiliaries in the province to send dele: gates to the Annual Aux aries’ Meeting, to be held in . the Kent Room of the Georgia Hotel, Vancouver, commencing on Tuesday, January 31.
