8 B.C. LUMBER WORKER 2nd Issue, March CCL Supports E.T.U. Strike Photograph reproduced in the adjacent columns was taken on the picket line held by 100 members of the Electrical Trades Union, Local No. 1, who have been on strike at the Burrard Dry Dock since January 13. Seen, third from the left, is Bert Adair, Business Agent of the Union, who was recently given prominent mention in the news. This small Local Union, was the only aggregation of tradesmen in the shipyard to refuse the recommendations of a number of Conciliation Boards dealing with the general dispute. Defying all intimidation from the Company, these elec- tricians remained firm in their determination to win a more reasonable adjustment of wages than was offered through the Boards, and took strike action. They have now appealed to trade unionists in the province to aid them against the pressure, which threatens to starve them into submission. In recognition of their urgent need, Local 1-217, [WA has raised: and contributed, in aid of the strikers the sum of $800.00, and Local Union 1-357, IWA, New Westminster, has subscribed $300.00, with a continuing weekly guarantee of $100.00 while the strike lasts. ‘ All CCL Unions and their members are pledged: to sup- port this strike. % Completely Equipped for METAL - WHEEL - FRAME ALIGNMENT - PAINTING RE-CONDITION AS NEW including STEAM POWER is used to load log- electric infra-red ging truck pie Angers i ort ‘Sed JAKE-OVEN oop pare Aiorsl rea for 2-day repaint service —Pictures by Joe Miyazowa.
