Logging at Poje Praises Ladies’ Work Local 1-80, IWA, President, Tony Poje, expressed his appte- ciation to the quarterly meet- ing of the Women’s Auxiliary of Local 1-80, Saturday, No- vember 27, in the IWA Hall, Duncan, for their contributions to the Union and he pledged them every assistance by the Local Union in the continuance of their activities. 2 The Sub-Auxiliaries of Parks- ville, Chemainus, Lake Cowichan, Cayeuse Beach, and Youbou were well represented, and the attend- ance was large. Following the meeting, the Auxiliary held their Armual Xmas Party, at the Commercial Hotel. Guest speaker was Financial Sec- retary Ed Linder, who compli- mented the ladies on their party and the progress made in the Auxiliary. At the conclusion of. the party, Christmas gifts were exchanged by the members present. PROBE URGED Vancouver Council of Wom- en, meeting December 6th, heard Mrs. M. Tomer of the Council’s Agriculture Commit- tee read a brief presented to the Royal Commission, dealing with milk. The Brief stressed the urgent need of authorities finding addi- tional uses for milk with the view of inereasing sales and bringing the cost down. » Milk Labels The practise of milk companies labelling and selling milk as “Jersey Milk” for several cents more after adding a very small percentage of Jersey milk to the bottles was felt by the Council to be misleading and should be stopped. Chamberlain presented a Child Welfare resolution re- questing the Vancouver Council request the newspapers in Van- couver to publish a child’s movie guide once a week. The resolu- tion carried. A resolution on Moral Stand-' ards was presented to the Van- couver Council strongly urging the Provincial Government to take immediate steps to plan for building an institution to replace the Girls’ Industrial School and to renoyate the present quarters in the meantime.
