The delegation, led by Mayor Don McKay of Calgary, presented a 27-page brief on behalf of the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities. Suggested measures to prevent increasing unemployment and to assist those who were jobless, in- cluded: A federal - provincial- municipal program of public works; transfer of job-seekers from “economically distressed” areas to places where jobs were available; extension of coverage of Unemployment Insurance Act to those not now included; and federal government assistance to unemployed workers not entitled to unemployment insurance bene- fits and those whose benefits have expired.
