BACKS POOL The IWA Women’s Auxiliary of Local 1-424 at the last meet- ing held, went on record as be- ing in favor of the completion of a swimming pool for the City of Prince George. At present the only place the children have to swim is in the Nechako and Fraser Rivers, these rivers have swift running cur- rents and there are no lifeguards | and no supervision at these places | for the children, in addition the | sewage disposal of the city runs, into the Fraser River from the Millar Addition. Proper recreational facilities for the children in summer are limited. The auxiliary is for- warding letters to the Kinsmen’s Club, the Prince George Youth Centre and the Mayor of the city, requesting that the swimming pool be one of the first completed for the children’s recreation dur- ing the summer. “ow did your wife get on| with her redueing diet?” | “Fine, she disappeared com- pletely last week.” Duncan W.A. Helps Creston Delegates The Women’s Auxiliary of Lo- cal 1-80, IWA, at their regular meeting, March 13, voted to send District Secretary-Treasurer G. Mitchell a sum of money to help defray the expenses of the Cres- ton Delegates who attended the IWA Annual Conyention in Van- couver. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Smythe, Auxiliary Pre dnt, with 11 members in attend- ance. Reports were heard from the Sub-Locals of Local 1-80, and are as follows: LAKE COWICHAN A donation of $10.00 was sent to the Creston Strike Fund. The Sub-Locals Hospital Visiting Committee of five members visit the hospitals regularly every month. One new member joined the Auxiliary and there was one withdrawal. Three baby showers were held for members. Plants and cards were sent to several members who were ill in hospi- tal. CHEMAINUS A party was held over the Christmas season for members and their friends. Donations were sent to families in need. CAMP No. 6 A Klondyke Night will be held by the members of Camp No. 6, March 27. Auxiliary Adopts Invalid Child The Chemainus Women’s Auxiliary, Sub-Local of Local 1-80, IWA, held their regular monthly business meeting in the home of Sister McGahey and presided over by President Milmore. Plans were completed for the “Babies’ Basket” for a Polio vie- tim in town, who had just had a baby girl. The basket, to be de- livered the next day, was deco- vated in pink and white, con- tained various toiletry items do- nated by each member. The Auxiliary was told that their adopted child from the Solarium, Cobble Hill, B.C would be a little girl aged 18 months, and plans were made to send her an Easter gift.
