Reports The following is a brief summary of the activities of the various IWA Women’s delegates attending the 2nd Annual Auxiliary Conference, in the Hotel Vancouver, February 17th, for which space was not available in this pul ing the Conference. Lake Cowichan Sub-Local Sister Olga Loewen related their many activities of the past year. Included among them were two card parties, sales of home cooking, raffle, election of offi- cers, baby showers, strike aid, Labor Day parade participation, collection of rugs for friends, a Christmas Party benefit dance, monthly social evenings and re- membering members in hospital. Also plans for a banquet are under way. Four new members were in- itiated through the year. Dona- tions were made to the Red Cross, Cancer Fund and Boy Scouts, also to their Local swimming in- structor. Sister Ethel Turner reported that they have four meetings a year due to the wide area their auxiliary covers, The last meet- ing of the year is a turkey din- mer and exchange of gifts at which approximately 50 ladies attend. Their concentrated donation is to the Children’s Solarium and remembrances of sick in hospital. Caycuse Beach Sub-Local Sister Evelyn Smythe, Camp 6, listed their many donations which included the March of Dimes, Cancer Fund, Institute for the Blind, and Christmas, Parcels of soldiers in Korea. ‘A $100 bursary is to be given to a high school girl with the highest grade marks and is going in for nursing. Parksville Sub-Local Following are the activities of this ‘Auxiliary for the past year. Two baby showers, spring tea with sale of home cooking and sewing, summer picnics, weiner roasts, visiting sick members, helped needy family, dance and weiner roast for strike needs. Local 1-357, New Westminster Sister Margaret Nashnik stated that their chief activity was hos- pital visiting but also included strike. canteen and socials, also giving silver spoons to new babies as well as conducting a success- ful radio broadeast. A donation was made to an [WA member for an artificial leg and also to the Orphans’ Fund. Local 1-217, Vancouver Sisters Lucille Busch and Kay Wood related that their foremost job of the year was an all-out effort to assist the District dur- ing the strike. They are also affiliated with the Vancouver Council of Women and one of their members was a delegate at the Regional Confer- ence on United Nations.
