PLANT COOPERATION Presentation of a Special Gold Award, recognizing the first ma- jor industry, west of Ontario to work over 1,000,000 man-hours, without a compensable accident, was made March 27 by the B.C. Safety Council to the employees of the B.C. Forest Products Co. Ltd. (Vancouver Division). The brief ceremony held in the company’s lunch room was at- tended by a large gathering of employees who heard speakers yepresenting Labor, Government and Management, laud their praiseworthy achievement, Speakers were Arthur Francis, Chief Inspector, Workmen’s Com- pensation Board; IWA District Safety Director, John T. Atkin- son; H. GC. Munro, Vice-President and Managing Director, B.C.F.P.; W. M, “Scotty” Allison, Safety Director, BCLMA; W. H. Bar- rington, President of the B.C. Safety Council; R. E. Evans, Safety Director, BCFP; Charlie Stokes, Chairman of Safety Cap- tains; John Zeiler, Chairman of the Safety Committee; and D, A. Saunders, Manager BCFP, Van- couver Division. Mr, W. H. Barrington made the presentation to Mr. D. A. Saun- ders, who in turn presented the award to Mr. John Zeiler, The credit for this outstanding safety feat was given to both the new and old Safety Committees for their untiring efforts in gain- ing their goal. Employees ex- pressed confidence that with the hardest part over, there is now no reason why they should not make their next record 2,000,000 hours, without a compensable accident.
