@ LABOR’S NEEDS VOICED IN CAMPAIGN |

Five’ well-known IWA members, whose photographs are reproduced on this page,
are eateeting ridings in the provincial election in support of labor’s legislative
program which has been incorporated in the CCF program. They are: Rae Eddie in

New Westminster, Jack Squire in Alberni, Frank Howard
in MacKenzie, and Bill Thompson in Salmon Arm.

‘The prominence of these candidates in the activities of the TWA,
in addition to the fact that they have been accorded the right by
the CCF to speak freely for labor, has roused high hopes of their
election by supporting trade unionists.

Tn_yiew of the repeated rejections by former governments of
the IWA demands for legislative changes in the interests of labor,
considerable interest is felt in the possibility that the TWA may
haye direct representation in the next Legislature on terms that
are made by the IWA through the CCF.

The services of a Conciliation
Officer may become necessary to
secure a satisfactory agreement
in the newly-organized plant of
Fraser Building Supplies Ltd., as
negotiations to secure an agree-
ment have recently bogged down.

Unusual volume of claims re-
quiring attention by the Union
before the Unemployment Insur-
ance Commission and the Work-
men’s Compensation Board has
been recently experienced by
President Andy Smith. Although
difficulties have been experienced,
the percentage of satisfactory
adjustments, “it is considered,
fully warrants the effort ex-
pended.

Strike Action Ready

_, The Local Union has completed
its preparations for strike action
by the organization of all strike
committees and the registration
of all members according to resi-
dence for strike picket duty.
