Members in attendance heard a report that after vigorous repre- sentations regarding the danger- ous condition of the Nanaimo Lakes road, steps have finally been taken to undertake more sa- tisfactory maintenance. Matters came to a head, because of three fatal accidents in the area, and inquest reports recounting grave difficulties in transporting seri- ously injured men. Chemainus Christmas Party With funds secured through a turkey draw, members: of the Chemainus Sub-Local are plan- ning a Christmas Party for the children at the Willow Theatre at 2 pm, December 22, The pres- ence of Santa Claus has been ar- ranged and the guests on the oc- casion will be treated to candies, nuts and oranges. Parksville Christmas Party The Christmas Party planned by the members of the Parksville Sub-Local, 1-80, for children un- der the ages of 12, in the Parish Hall, Parksville, December 21 at 7 pam., promises to be one of the community’s outstanding events of the season, it is claimed by President Frank Telford. Gifts will be distributed to the children and. refreshments will be served to all in attendance. Funds to promote the party were secured through the orga- nization of a turkey shoot, at which the ladies of the Women’s Auxiliary served hot dogs and coffee. Another four turkey shoots will be held by the Sub- Locak during December. Ladysmith Elections Three members of Local 1-80 IWA, Ladysmith Sub-Local, are in the field as candidates for of- fice on the Ladysmith City Coun- cil. His community activities have included service as a director of the ratepayers’ association and a member of the Hospital Committee.
