G. Gagne, Knight Inlet—Leg hetter, will be up soon. Einar Shodin, Toba Inlet—Leg smashed; not in cast yet. John Badowsk, Butler and Mc- Dougal—New operation on arm. Lidberg, of the W.A., Local 1-363, IWA, visited Lourdes Hospital at Campbell River and distributed cigarettes, candy and the B.C. LUMBER WORKER to the following patients: Steve Caput, Salmon River Logging Co—Throat infection. Cecil Madden, B.S.W., Camp 5 —Broken arm.’ ~ Federal Tax Move Protested By Auxiliary To Local 1-217 The May meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary to Loc 1-217 was held in the IWA Board Room, 45 Kingsway. Two new members were obli- gated, Sisters Anne Nichol and Kay Rankin. The Auxiliary endorsed a reso- lution submitted by the Van- couver Council of Women to_each affiliated body, protesting the proposed action of the Federal Government in presenting a re- vision of the B.N.A. Act which would grant provinces the authority to levy any form of in- direct taxes. A copy of this reso- lution will be sent by us to the Prime Minister and to the local members of Parliament in Ottawa. We were informed by radio station CJOR that “Design for Women” with Miss Laddie Wat- kis and weekly guests from the Vancouver Council of Women’ is being broadcast at a new time— Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Reports from the Hospital Visiting Committee for April showed the following number of patients visited per week: St. Paul's—Visited by. Sisters Ruth Bullock, Pat Fulljames and Jacqueline Clarkson. Average of nine per week. WA Social The ~Auxiliary Social held Saturday, May 12th, in the Vet- erans Community Hall, 47th and Fraser, proved a very’ enjoyable and successful affair with a capa- city crowd in attendance. Music for the dancing was played by Jean Lindal and her orchestra. The door prize, an electric kettle, donated by J. W. Bow & Go., was won by Mrs. Helen Boy- Ien with ticket No. 61. Mr. Boy- len is employed at L. and T. Lumber Co. A report was heard from Sis- ter Rossie Cummins, Social Gon- venor, of the meeting of the Joint Social Committee, and plans were finalized for our Social, May 12th.
