OTTAWA. (CPA) “No
child, no aged person, and no
sick person in any’part of Can-
ada, ought to be required to
accept a lower standard of
security merely by virtue of
the fact that they happen to
live in one part of Canada,
while a person in another part
of Canada has a much higher
standard of living and a much
higher standard of security,”
said Premier Tommy Douglas
at the opening of the Domin-
ion-Provincial Conference in
Ottawa on December 4.

This latest meeting of the pro-
vincial premiers with the Federal
government heard Prime’ Minis-
ter St. Laurent say that his gov-
ernment was ready to implement
an old age pension scheme as
recommended by the Parliamen-
tary Committee last June, pro-

ided that agreement b
INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE MIKE SEKORA chats| obtained among the provinces,

with Harry Caplan from Holberg Camp at the Loggers’ Ball. The Committee’s recommendation
; ‘|called for a contributory system
of pensions free of means test at
70, but with a means test at 65.
Mr. Douglas declared that Sas-
kacthewan would gladly concur
in any amendment to the B.N.A.
Act necessary to implement a
comprehensive pension scheme.

The Bill further provides that
every citizen of Saskatchewan,
regardless of race, creed, re-
ligion, color or natural origin,
shall enjoy without discrimina-
tion, the right to carry on busi-
ness; the right to employment;
the right to own and occupy
property; the right to enter pub-
lie places; the right to member-
ship in professional and trade
associations and the right to an
educition.

Penalties are imposed by the
Act for violations of any of its
provisions. Such penalties may
he enforced by any person or
class of persons affected.
