Greater utilization of B.C. forest products, and the lowering
of costs in the construction of homes in the $4,000 price range,
are the dual objectives of a campaign now well advanced through
the B.C, Coast Woods Trade Extension Bureau.

While the objective of the cam-
paign is to increase the use of
_ B.C, lumber generally as a build-
ing material, initial gmphasis is
being placed on the advantages
of using lower grades of lumber
where practicable, in home con-
struction.

widespread interest among work-
n the industry because of the

agement to the Canadian plan.

Two experimental houses of
solid cedar core stock erected re-
cently in connection with the
Fraserview Development in Van-
couver, indicate that substantial
saving may be effected by new
designs developed by the Bur-
eau’s architects,

Preliminary estimates are that
Type “A” house, illustrated on
this page, may be completed, (in-
cluding all plumbing, heating,
wiring, fixtures, and decorations)
for approximately $4,600.

_Attractive features are, simpli-
city of construction, speed of. er-
ection, and low material costs.

Heat insulation is rated higher
than more conventional types.
Fire protection tests have shown
superior advantages to houses
framed in the usual way.

‘A complete breakdown on costs

will be furnished to interested
prospective builders.
